Application of the Demonstration Method in Teaching Tayamum to First-Grade Elementary School Students

Abstract

This research aims to describe the application of the demonstration method in learning tayamum for students of class 1D at SD Kyai Ibrahim Surabaya. The background of this research stems from the need of early elementary school students to understand purification procedures, especially tayamum, concretely and easily. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with a participant observation approach. The research was conducted in one day of learning through direct demonstration activities carried out by the researcher in the classroom. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and field notes. The results of the study showed that the application of the demonstration method helped students understand the procedures for tayammum and their enthusiasm in learning the procedures. Students were able to follow each step of the demonstration well, from the intention, dusting off, to wiping the face and hands. The conclusion of this study is that the demonstration method supports students' understanding as a learning strategy for Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in lower elementary school grades, because it provides a real, interactive, and enjoyable learning experience for students.
